Wie schon erwähnt war die letzte Woche “Homecoming Week”. Diese geht wie jedes Jahr mit einem Football Spiel zu Ende.

Um uns zu diesem Spiel einzustimmen waren wir einen Abend vorher noch mit Colin (der heute übrigens Geburtstag hat: Happy Birthday) beim Eishockey Spiel EMU vs. Adrian. Dummerweise haben sie 4:2 verloren… Dafür aber das Rückspiel am nächsten Tag in Adrian 6:2 gewonnen. Toll ist echt dass man hier zu allen Events kostenlos reinkommt. Am Wochenende ist auf unserem Campus das USA-Finale der Frauen Basketball Liga (WNBA) Detroit - San Antonio und am Montag spielt Bruce Springsteen (Born in the USA) auf dem Campus. Dummerweise haben wir während dem (für uns kostenlosen) Konzert Vorlesungen aber das WNBA-Finale schauen wir uns natürlich an.

Zurück zum Spiel: College Football Spiele sind eine der wenigen öffentlichen Veranstaltungen, bei denen Alkohol toleriert (oder erwünscht…) wird. Das “Vorglühen” nennt sich hier offiziell Tailgating und beginnt morgens meist mit Grillen, Spielen, Saufen und äähhh Saufen. Dieser Spass findet dann auf dem Parkplatz vor dem Stadion statt. Etwas, dass man echt mal gesehen haben muss.

Während dem eigentlichen Spiel gibt es dann einige Einlagen der Marchingband und Cheerleaders. (Und wie man auf einem Bild sehr gut erkennen kann, muss man dabei nicht unbedingt die beste Figur haben). Einige Einlagen sind echt spektakulär (siehe Video unten). Dummerweise haben die EMU Eagles mal wieder verloren und wir sind etwas enttäuscht, gemeinsam mit dem Großteil der Zuschauer, noch vor Spielende nach Hause gefahren. Der durchgeknallte Typ auf dem Bild ist übrigens unser Buddy John.

Zu Beginn des Winterterms (also jetzt) findet hier an der EMU ein einwöchiges Event statt: das sogenannte Homecoming. Es beinhaltet einige Partys auf dem Campus, Picnics, ein Footballspiel, ein Volleyball-Turnier und noch viel viel mehr. Eigentlich ist jeden Tag Programm mit 2-5 Events.

Wir waren diese Woche beim Volleyball-Turnier. Es war aber kein normales Volleyballfeld sondern eher Schlamm…

Wir haben hier beschlossen, dass es bei weitem nicht ausreicht wenn wir das ein oder andere mal unser Rec besuchen um schwimmen zu gehen.
Deswegen haben wir uns jetzt zuhause einen eigenen Basketballkorb aufgestellt. Man muss ja schliesslich fit bleiben

Wo studiere ich hier eigentlich ?
Ich studiere hier an der Eastern Michigan University (EMU), den meisten wahrscheinlich nicht bekannt. Bekannter ist das College in Ann Arbor (dem Ort nebenan), die University of Michigan, als deren kleine Schwester die EMU gerne bezeichnet wird. Das sind die mit dem gelben “M” auf nem blauen Shirt. Unsere Farben hier sind Weiss und Grün und unser Buchstabe ist ein “E”. Das Logo der Uni(s) sieht man hier überall, in jedem Supermarkt gibt es T-Shirts, Hoodies, Kissen, Decken, Stühle, Tassen, Fahnen … sogar Grillabdeckungen. Die EMU hat 22.300 Studenten, wurde 1849 gegründet und unser Sportteam sind die Eagles. In den meisten Sportarten sind die Eagles ziemlich schlecht, ausser im Schwimmen, da ist die EMU jedes Jahr das beste College.

Jetzt zum wichtigsten: Der Campus. Das Gelände hier hat über 3 Quadratkilometer und offiziell 122 Gebäude. Zu diesen Gebäuden Zählen unter anderem:

Der Studentenausweis ist gleichzeitig eine Kreditkarte. 3x pro Woche erscheint die Uni eigene Zeitung. Und wie jedes anständige College in den USA hat die EMU auch ihren eigenen Fight Song.

So nach einem turbulenten Flug bei dem die Flugbegleiter mal kurz den Service unterbrechen mußten “AAAAAAAAAAAAA, ich will nicht alleine sterben” bin ich hier doch noch heil angekommen! Viel gemacht haben wir dann letzte Woche am Samstag nicht mehr. Waren noch in der Mall und beim Stop&Shop und dann war ich auch schon kurz vorm einschlafen.

Sonntag sind wir dann in die Stadt, dort war in Chinatown ein Umzug wegen dem “Chinese New Year” Naja also natürlich war der Umzug nicht zu vergleichen mit dem Faschingsumzug in Hambrücken es gab auch wesentlich weniger Alkohol . Ums genau zu nehmen gabs keinen Alkohol! Trotzdem waren die Drachen und vielen kleinen Schwertkämpfer sehr lustig anzuschauen. Und überhaupt hab ich jetzt mal gelernt wie stark so ein kleiner Chinese sein kann… Mensch Mensch die haben mich fast zu Tode gedrückt nur um ganz vorne an der Absperrung zu stehen.

Am Montag hat Tobias dann gearbeitet und ich hab meinen Tag mit rumgammeln und TV schauen verbracht. Am Dienstag bin ich dann mit dem Bus zur Roosevelt Field Mall gefahren. NAJA was soll ich sagen nachdem ich den Busfahrplan falsch gelesen hatte, hab ich dann den zweiten angepeilten Bus bekommen und bin stolz zur Mall gefahren. In der Mall hab ich mich dann natürlich sehr gut verweilen können und hab nicht gemerkt dass draußen ein Schneechaos beginnt! Da es hier keine Winterreifen oder ähnliches gibt bzw. da die Amis nicht gerade gut bei Schnee fahren könne, kann man schon sagen sind wir eigentlich auf der Heimfahrt (Tobias hat mich nach der Arbeit von der Mall abgeholt) nur noch gerollt. Trotzdem sind wir (Tobias, Jan und ich) abends todesmütig zum Eishockey gefahren. Es haben die Islanders gegen die Flyers gespielt also sprich WIR (New York) gegen Philadelphia. Was soll ich sagen natürlich haben wir gewonnen is ja klar!

Ab Mittwoch hatte Tobias dann frei und wir haben den regnerischen Tag für einen Besuch des Woodberry Outlet Center genutzt Tobias und ich waren zwar nicht so erfolgreich wie andere Einkäufer aber wir haben trotzdem noch was gefunden.

Am Donnerstag war das Wetter wieder sonnig (wie jetzt gerade auch) und wir sind gegen Mittag in die Stadt gefahren. Für spotbillige 17,50 sind wir dann auf das “Top of the Rock” gefahren. Freitag wollte dann eigentlich unser Kommilitone Sven ankommen, welcher Tobias’s Nachfolge bei Lufthansa antritt. Leider wollten die netten Menschen in Frankfurt keinen weiteren Schwaben in die Maschine lassen und somit hat er noch nen weiteren Tag in Deutschland verbracht. Tobias und ich haben den Freitag dann zum Wäsche waschen und Koffer packen genutzt! Abends sind wir in die Stadt in ne Bar “Jake’s Dilemma” und haben dort mal zwei Pitcher Cider und zwei Pitcher Bier geleert … um 3 waren wir dann zuhause.
